Just out of curiosity, is there any reason that Waldencards doesn't want them sanctioned?

Not for nothing, but I'm sure hot rated players like Blaine, Chris, Jay will all want to continue heating it up, and notwithstanding other new players would like a chance to rival them in ratings. The ranking matter a little more to us here in ME than they often do in M:tg...we all saw who #1 awards free trips to Gencon...who doesn't want a piece of that?
But hey, I won't bite the hand that feeds ME. Any support is good support...

I am pretty sure Waldencards is running non-sanctioned because they have yet to hit the regular 8 players needed. There are some ME players there, but it has been slower going than I'd hoped. I wish they were closer so we could help a bit more. We need to get there players to come to the forums. That would help.

Oh, so is it more "We'd sanction the tourneys if we got 8 or more people, but we usually don't, so we'll advertise as non-sanctioned tourneys" or is it, "We don't want to sanction the tourneys even if we could for some reason"?
If it's the first one, then maybe it should be, "If we get 8 or more people we'll sanction the tourney."
If it's the last one, then I'm curious as to why the store would prefer not to sanction a tourney.

I think 8 needed for a sanctioned tourney is kind of asking alot. Is this the written in stone rule or is this recommended? Yugioh is 4, magic is 8 and that has made it very difficult to ever have a died in the wool santioned magic tournament until CGE came along then i found out you can only use their system for 6 qualifiers which to me is still more official but honestly the 8 person tournament format is a pain heres why. Scenario:
Jim:hey I am here for the official tournement frank:cool Bob:I am also here for the official tournament frank:nifty Joe:Iam here to attend the official tourney you betcha frank:great alex:I am here to improve my rankings at the official tourney Frank:awesome Rita:(a girl who knew)I am here for the official tournament frank:wow oscar:Sup here for the official tourney frank:sweet frenchy:I am here for the sanctioning let it begin oui oui frank:ok ribbit ribbit ribbit.. 15 minutes later frank:well guys I guess it looks like we don't have a sanctioned tourney but I run a non sanctioned Everyone else:Thats ok maybe next week, and they leave

There needs to be some guidelines to official tournaments. I can see your point on how it can make it tough to get enough people at times. The problem is where do you draw the line? I think 8 seems about right. With 8, the tournament will be 3 rounds.

Gustave367 with some friendly smack talk!! Nice show amigo. I admire your moxie but a tournament full of battle tested regulars will be humbling. SoBroJay, Arashi, Syn, or Sojomojo will have you begging for mercy by game 2.

The store owner is the acting judge, if the store owner wishes to become a judge that is only a plus, and it is needed for manufacturer sanctioned events but its not needed for low level in-store events.
