actually while at the tourney this is how it went. i played joe donaly and i would have lost if he didnt get screwed 3rd game. he was running a slavemaster, infinite draw, lots of random good stuff deck. it was very hard.
and with attckign only decks. rogues OWNS wizzards almost every game i have play tested. rogues have efeciant ways to deal with creatures and nullify most threats wizzards have.

Spiller, without a card like Grimus, many creature cards will NEVER see play because they have either 0 loyalty or loyalty that is too high(18+). I can only think of about 3 cards other then structures that boost leadership. Besides, the powerful creatures aren't always the ones with high loyalty. Take the infamous slavedriver for instance. He has only 12 loyalty, which is low enough so that almost any character can use him. Yes, Grimus does allow any card to be played but that is basically his ONLY strength, and he has many weaknesses to balance him. Each character has their own special traits and abilities. Grimus lets you keep control over any creature to make up for his EXTREME physical weakness(10 health and 1 power), Lord Zycon Can DOUBLE ALL magic abilities when a guild is out which is not very difficult as I have seen Synergy do it VERY easily. Doubling all magic abilities can be devastating and trust me when I say that. Lord Sutraps is another devastating character, even without a dust. Just add in enough removal and strong undead and bam...8 damage to your opponents character just like that. Sutraps keeps forcing your opponent to waste their creatures to block with and therefore have nothing to retaliate with; especially against the physically weak grimus. Thandore makes all your rogues have invisibility and even entering play disengaged with a guild. It's kinda hard to fight something that cant even be targeted or that kills you before you get a chance. I mean c'mon, having UNBLOCKABLE rogues enter play disengaged isn't powerful? This is yet another thing that will CRUSH Grimus.
I really should stop here as i've already given too many of my decks weaknesses...
It is true that some characters are better than others, but it's like that with all card games. Every card game has some cards that are just better than others, but that doesn't make them broken. Saying that grimus is broken is like saying all the characters listed above and even others are broken because the have good special abilities. If Grimus is the end-all character then why haven't I beaten Synergy who doesn't use grimus in every one of our games. I beat him one out of three in the tourney and he didn't win because of peace time. He has a solid deck around a character other than Grimus. Think about it. As soon as the peacetime issue is resolved, I think that it will be more viable to make decks around other characters. I'm currently working on a deck based around Thandore right now and so far it's looking pretty good. Another character I plan on working with a bit is Glye as I have not seen a deck around him since reckoning.
As for the 2nd or 3rd turn combos you were talking about kevmo, most of them have been eliminated completely since the rule change on the ring of temporal acceleration. My previous deck had EVERY SINGLE infinite/broken combo that I could passibly think of in it, but I had to dismantle that deck because most of them were whiped out of existance. And if your talking about the lock down strategy, the Thandore deck would crush it.
Anyway, this is just my honest opinion on the matter.

i TOTALLY agree with what arasia said. soultrops is very good and i wouldlike to make adeck with himbut i noticed without dust he loses to peacetime. but spiller thatdoestn make it broken. cause rogues pwn mealmost every game.but rogues lose to beef decks a lot. everything can beat everything. wizzards dontneed peacetime. aggro wizzards is OUTSTANDING . perosnally i htink 3rd best deck. i love my deck. usualy beats every non broken (by broken i mean decks that have beenfixed atthis pt) deck. i have made decks tat stomp mine though. its all fairright nowunless there is anuts deck im not seeing. which istotlly possible.

some questions about that post???
Rogues are good? They have some of the best abilities but that is all that I have seen. I am not sure how good they are if that is what your deck is based around. Maybe I am missing something important.
Aggro wizrds, what is aggro wizzards? they only cast spels how is that aggro??
You think aggro wizzrd is the 3rd best deck. What is the #1 and #2 deck??
how to hear back from you about some of the questions. It would be nice to have a better understanding of decks that show up at a tourny then showing up blinly.

rogues ONLY beat control decks. that is there problem.
agro wizzards. let me explain.... so first off u have lighitngin bolt, chain lighitng, and fireball. u also have CHARGE. you get some early critters and lay down shutdown spells like illusionary fighter. u hit charge and atck. after u got some early damge. u finish him off with lhgihitng and fire.
the top 2 decks are ..... grimus with great cards and wizzard control.

thanks again for the info. Its nice to hear what else is out there. I guess that I have somewhat of a wizard aggro deck. Mine is just all burn. Not to many people use the 20 health characters where we play so its rather easy to kill them.

Well, alright! I started a maelstrom of fury and then disappeared for a month or so. In that time, I saw that the Dust got fixed, which is good. I guess I'll fast forward to where you guys left off.
I can't say that there is healthy ME competition around this area, so I'm not exposed to some of these decks you guys are referring to. But I'd like to think I'm very visual and a quick study, so I think I see where some of the problems are.
These two decks, Zycon and Grimus, I gather are the top two currently. Going back to the subject of this thread, Grimus himself is a problem. It's not that he is overly broken at all, but I do think he bends the rules just enough to dictate the whole format. I don't think it was the intention to be able to control any creature he wants. Having him around limits what type of creatures can be created in the future by R&D. I think he should only grant undead creatures false loyalty, which others have suggested before. He still would be very good, not nearly unusable as compared to say...Glyphegor. This might also encourage alternate ways of playing and keeping your high demand creatures.
As for the Zycon decks, well, that's a little tougher. You see, I'd love for this game to slow down. I want an age where structures are actually built. I see two problem cards in what I assume makes this deck work...1. Peacetime should state that only the character should be allowed to apply the time token. The affect of this card is too ridiculous, so it's upkeep should be too...and I think maybe it might have been the original intent and concept of the card. 2. Heroic Sacrifice-I have a real problem with this card. Cards like these speed the game up, so they just add to the problem. I understand that wizard decks shouldn't have to play builders, but there should instead be more and more magical ways to build them. This card recruits it and enables it all in one, and it's not all that expensive. Zycon+Guild is just too ridiculous to be so easy to attain. I think a more fair scenario is too only allow creatures to cast Heroic Sacrifice...take the character away. That might slow it down a turn or 2, not to mention give up 2 if not 3 creatures, sacrificing not only their lives, but more importantly, the character itself would be sacrificing a huge tempo swing...which is only fair considering that's what real builders would have done. That is, do nothing but build for 3 turns.
I'll leave it at that for now I guess. You guys can figure out how to slow down Gyle if what I'm suggesting were actually to happen. I'll be happy when I can play Glyphegor and conceivably deck you. I'd like to thank all of you for educating me on this thread...it has been very helpful. It's easy to recognize the talent around here.
