decided to completely drop Morlock Debain. he was a dead draw who was only good for his spell casting ability and since i'm only allowed 1 in play he wasn't really worth it.

That is a good reason to have him in there. He has great magic. And if nothing else, he gives you another creature. Which you could defend iwth, or cast a spell later on.
I never found him a dead draw. But if dropping him makes your deck work better, do it.
Also in our game, The sidedeck is a 10 card maxium. As far as I understand, there is no minium. None of this "you have it or you don't."

he doesn't really work that well for me. his spell casting is great and he does provide a blocker, but if i have one in play and my opponent's not attacking (say he/she's playing another wizard burns deck or a) or a rougue/angel deck with unblockables/flyers and morlock isn't getting himself killed, he's not much use to me if i draw him again.
as for the side board thing, thanks for clearing that up, i was under the impression that if you had a side board it had to be 10 cards, no more or less.

Well, I'd still run one.

I agree with Tirus on Morlock, I would at least run one, maybe two, yeah I know the second might be a dead draw, but i usually don't get that problem, he does help maintai creature advantage, but I must say I love the drakens in a burn deck, good spellcasting, decent power, and defense against enemy flyiers, I would suggest bella for the same reason, that and well she is one of my favorite cards.

Whether it is reflected in the current rules or not, the last ruling I remember Keith and I making at Gencon was that you only had a 10 card maximum to sideboard. No minimums...you can 3 cards if you like, or none, although it is highly suggested you have all 10.
