Well its over and the results are in! With a total of 16 people participating it was an event you didn't want to miss. Before the event even got underway rules questions where being double-checked. One big one was the new errata on walls. After a long discussion and ultimately a coin flip it was decided that the new ruling on walls would be in effect for this event.
Every big name player in the New England area was able to attend. We had Mr on FIRE Blaine Hatab, Chris Norton, Rebecca Anttila, Jay (So Broken) Algain, and cough cough ME?? Yes I the great Sojo was able to participate in the event. However with that said it still doesn’t tell you who won. But it should of, god %$%$ mistakes grrrr .. lol
1st Round:
We had 8 matches going one but one to look at was Rebecca Anttila vs. Blaine Hatab. This was an event to watch. If Blaine took a lose here it could change everything. Rebecca seemed nervous, hell I was nervous and almost lost one of my games because I was to busy thinking about Blaine losing. But it didn't take long to see that Blaine had the win with ease. The mighty Sutraps couldn't handle the power of Lady's Ronde and her massive card advantage and sneaky little rouges that smack you in the face.
On another table we had Jay Algain and Mike Spiller. Hmmm Revenge?? Yes if you haven’t read the threads on the ME forums Jay (So broken) beat Mike Spiller in their last confrontation with two back to back 2nd round combo wins! CAN I GET A WOOT WOOT FOR GOBLINS??? Lol So this was the big show down but wait neither Mike nor Jay where running the same decks. Jay had Zycon Heat Wave and Mike was running Lady Ronde Heat Wave/CHARGE! The first game Mike won with only 2 or 3 life left. Second game it looked like another close win for Mike as he ripped out the Heat Wave for the win! BUT WAIT could it be? YES, Jay response with a T-Touch and a Fireball for the win! Mike was shock to see that happen and to top the win for Jay. Third game Jay came on strong and it was looking like another possible close game but then Mike pulled out a little surprise for Jay with the CHARGE for the win! Great game you two I really wish I could have seen it all in progress.
2nd Round:
Ah the match everyone was watching Blaine Hatab running Lady's Ronde vs. ME Sojo Mojo running Lady's Ronde !! Muahaha This was a great match as the smack talk between Blaine and I started way before the match even got underway. First game Blaine opened up strong and I opened up with a card away from the combo win. However every time I got closer to pull it off Blaine was able to respond. The game went on for over 20 minutes with Blaine winning with only a few points of life. Second game was a wipe out with even after Blaine amazing opening hand of double Rouge Recruiters. One turn 3 Blaine was able to double recruit Slave Drivers. But it was exactly what I wanted him to do. The whole time I was sitting with a pathfinder/Fire Elem trick in my hand just waiting to clear his field. Then the draw, BOOM it was the BIG Sworn D! I had this with ease. Around 4th turn I cleared Blaines field with FireElm and it was just about game. He tried to recover but board control was in my favor with illusionist and other to help control the field. The game did go on for a while as I slowly pulled and played out my combo win on him. Blaine never admitted defeat even when it was looking as grim as it did. Game 3, time was called and we where only on round 3. So it was looking like a possible draw. However I got out a weak version of my combo and it could possibly be game. Blaine sneaked for Trade Agreement which made the difference in the game as time was called and turn 3 of OT he took control of my archer as I was leading in damage. When he declared his trade I had my opportunity to respond but forgot he had his own DOW in play and made the huge mistake not to. This cost me the game as the round went to 4 in OT and my own goblin archer killed me. Great game and great win by Blaine.
Round 3:
Chris Norton faced off with Kevin Adaska. Both players also running Lady's Ronde but two very different builds. I didn't get to see much of this match but from what I heard Chris won with ease. One of the big reasons mentioned was on game 2 when Chris had action advantage with two rings on his Lady Rounde.
After round 3, Chris Norton and Blaine Hatab where the only two player moving into round 4 undefeated.
Round 4:
Top 3 matches where
Blain Hatab vs Chris Norton: Blain hatab wins 2/0 against Chris Norton for his 3rd week in a row. Chris seemed very nervous dew to this match was going to determine who was going to win and who was going to stay in the lead on the ME rankings. Chris still isn't out yet with one more match left this Thursday but both top players made it clear that neither could attend.
Mike Spiller vs. Scott Tarbell
Scott Tarbell a fairly unknown ME player did really well and went 1/2 against Blaine in the 3rd round. However Mike and his CHARGE/HeatWave deck made quick work of Scott's deck winning 2/0.
Rebecca Antilla vs. ME Sojo Mojo! Well just my luck to face off against another Sutraps deck. It wasn't bad enough first round almost losing to Jeremy Racine's Sutraps deck but now the one I helped Rebecca build. This just wasn't my day. Game one: I came on strong and pull out the stopper on Satrap and his pwnage of damage. However 2nd game it was getting scary after a 1st turn WINGS!! OMG Satraps is going to smash my face. But never fear Wandering Unicorn saves LIVES! Yes Wandering Unicorn and her wandering friends (more WU's) came out to play and saved the day. Rebecca had me down to 1 life and she was a card away from either killing me or Heat Waveing me. However I was able to shock everyone as my deck did what it does best which was stabilize and turn the game around when it looks like its over. When the dust settled it was me the great Sojo taking the 2/0 win over the evil Rebecca and her SuSlap of doom. lol Great game Rebecca you had me scared there for a bit..
