iGameSpot's June 1st Tourney ResultsWith less than a month away from the season coming to an end yesterdays tournament was very interesting. More players seem to be switching to tier 1 character/decks. For instance yesterday the event was full of Grimus and Lord Zycon. Their where many different versions being played of each, but each where the top decks. It was also great to see the three top players all fighting to stay on top at the same event. Yesterday's Results1st Jeffrey Hatab (Zycon Control) 2nd Chris Norton (Grimus) 3rd Rebecca Anttila (Zycon Aggro) 4th Anthony Zadra (Grimus Control) 5th Jay Algarin (Zycon Burn) Even with that all said I still think there are a few more competitive characters out their. Rouges if played next week will be very interesting to see. Along with Jeremy Racine's Glye 2.0 deck which sadly didn't compete yesterday. A key thing to remember is some decks play better against other decks and may play weaker against others. As Blaine stated yesterday "my deck is meant to beat Grimus" , which btw it did. However after the event was over I tooled him with Rebecca's new Zycon Agro deck, but thats a different story. ;D So as you think about tier 1 decks pro's and con's you might see their is a place for competitive Glye,Lady, etc.. decks you just need to be creative. Lastly we're always looking for more players. If your looking for a place to play to raise your rating or even to have fun then try to make it down to our Thursday weekly event. If you can't attend Thursday and nothing is in your area but can make it down here let me know. We have about 5 other players that would like to attend events but either can't make Thursdays or can't make every Thursday Sojo out!

Thank you for posting this. I wish every store would post like this. It would really help drive things in their stores and on this forum.
Thanks =)

Awesome tourny report! I commend you for taking the time to post results and even a bit of backstory on what was the "metagame" of the tournament. I also commend you for holding weekly tournaments. With a new game it can be difficult to find the support your providing to the competitive side of the game. I personally cannot make any of the tournaments you hold. I do live several hours away so I can only attend those held on the weekends. The 4pm on Thursdays pretty much eliminates all adults who hold full time jobs from attending. It is the nature of the beast with a new game with limited options for tournaments. Keep up the great work! It should be interesting on who ends up in the top spots after the season closes!

Spiller if you can make it down on a weekend let me know whats better Saturday or Sunday. Like I said I have a few others that can't attend Thursdays either and they just play for fun on the weekends. But if we get 8 I can run an event instead.
Sojo out!

As Chris stated yesterday "my deck is meant to beat Grimus" , which btw it did. However after the event was over I tooled him with Rebecca's new Zycon Agro deck, but thats a different story. ;D So as you think about tier 1 decks pro's and con's you might see their is a place for competitive Glye,Lady, etc.. decks you just need to be creative. Did you maybe mean Blaine said that? I didn't BEAT the Grimus deck, I was RUNNING the Grimus deck. I definately agree that Glye and Lady phe' ronde decks are able to become more competitive as the level of creativeness for deckbuilding has increased. Glye and Thandore/Rogue decks should be watched closely in these last weeks because these two deckbuilds, if a fair hand is drawn, will usually beat control decks a good percentage of the time. And since control decks are all the rage these days you canexpect those deckbuilds to become more popular in the comming weeks.
Anyway, I'm either going to tweak my deck a little for next week or since so many people are using my deckbuild, I'm going to build my own version of that aggro wizard deck(SWEET idea BTW!). I'm going to test a few things this weekend, and if my plans work correctly then I think that I may be able to significantly increase that decks power level and speed. I'll post my results later!
It's great to have tourneys every week! Lotsa fun!
Nice job summing up the tourney Sojo and congrats on beating me Blaine! If this deckbuild works out then expect a fight next week!

Im fearing the power of grimus way more now. in that tourney i did beat chris. but it was mainly on his lack of a good hand and not skill. even though i thiknk my deck is great i think grimus is the best and i have one made cause it is #1. and its come to the point where i have seen people making decks to beat grimus decks. once it hits that point then u know the deck is #1 and getitng a bit overpowered. ill post suggestions and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE change grimus. i dont want to just use grimus and everyone have to use it.

Aggro is basically a fast, powerful deck that tries to win on the first few turns.
Burn decks are decks that rely heavily on direct damage abilities and spells such as jared firemonger and fireball.
Control decks are mainly either field removal (my control style) or tapping/pinning down spells and effects (Blaines control style) such as illusionary fighter.
There are other deckbuilds, but they usually fall into one of these catagories in some way or another.

Glad you liked the Wizard Aggro deck. Its v2.1 now that I finally had time to look at cards. Becca gave it a run in the event and she had little time to get use to playing that over her Archer and Glye decks, so sadly 3rd is all it got. It was a last minute change for her because she was going to run Glye v2.0. But both Chris and Blaine seen what it can do but Blaine is still saying its tier 2 even though it 2/0ed him with ease but then again thats wizards for ya. Chris I like the idea about powering up Grimus. hmmm lol Sojo out!

Sojo I am also interested in playing down there in tourneys but I am with Spiller in the fact that Thursdays are no good for me. I would love to make a regular event a couple of weekends a month. I have a couple of builds that I would like to see how they compete. As I have been pretty indepth in trying to make this game better and more popular it is a little dissappointing in the limited amount I get a chance to play competitively.
Hope you get the weekend spot going ;D
