Hmmm...what an interesting development. It seems like Chicago is on the map now, taking 1st, 2nd, and 4th at yesterday's Lafayette Regional. By the way, we'd like to thank Keith and Dave for a wonderful tourney. Interestingly enough, these same two say New England is where it's at...how long of a drive is that? Maybe us "Windies" will come a 'knockin'.
If only we had a chance to play in the Mega Face-off...that would have been interesting.
For those who might have been curious, a Heatwave deck took it all (and a near-mirror build also took 4th, if only because the two had to face each other in the last round of swiss). I don't know if that is the same deck as what some of you might call AggroZycon or burn because I haven't seen any decklists for those, but it definitely wasn't control Zycon. Interestingly enough, Grimus, the disputed broken one, didn't even show his face, which was good for him anyhow (it would have been a Grimus massacre yesterday...I really thought there would be more of him. Pity). Plenty of Glye though, and a couple Sutraps...
But what I think is the coolest thing is...are you ready...Lady Phe'Ronde's archers...what? Yea. Our 4th team member, who wasn't supposed to play, decided to do so in the last minute. We had no deck for him, so I pulled out the old archer deck...it's almost the same one you can find on the ME website for cool deck ideas, just a little modified. Now granted, I can't say we expected good things, because he wasn't exactly our star player, and the deck isn't expected to beat some of the supposed top decks, like Grimus or Zycon control. Even Glye seems too tough...However, it did a lot better than I gave it credit for. Even though it pulled a respectable 8th place finish, it actually could have been a lot higher. The deck held its own even if our member suffered brainfreeze half the time...(Just kidding Al...we know you had a migraine and really weren't in the best shape to play.)
Actually, I have a bit more to say about this, so I'll start a new post seperately.
For now, I again want to say thank you to the sponsors and Lafayette our gracious host. It was really fun, both the tourney and the game itself. It sounds like we might have a qualifier here at home in Chicago. Maybe some of you will turn the tables on us. Good luck!
