Well we kicked off our first weekly Saturday event and I must say it went well. We had a total of 10 people attend the event. With characters including Lord Sutraps, Glye, Lady Phe’Ronde, Grimus, and Lord Zycon the event was sure to be interesting. All top 3 contenders where at the event but the big surprise was all 3 didn't even place top 2! That's right! I said last week that people should watch out for the newly rookie Jay and boy should they. Jay introduced his new Glye combo deck. That's right combo, now its nothing new just your usual Goblin Archer combo that everyone in the event had in there deck but Jay's Glye deck really focused around that and some great control and magic cards. It was cool to see something other than Glye beats. Glye didn't go undefeated but it did win 3 out of 4, which is why he took 1st. The second place deck was a Mike Spiller's Grimus control deck that got rocked hard by the Glye deck losing both times in round 2. The Goblin Archer combo is killer but then everyone knows that but I still say it’s not broken. The combo only got 2nd round kills those 2 times and only off the Grimus deck, other decks had more ways of dealing with it. John Murins archer deck did really well going 2 out of 4 and only lost the 4th game due to he had to drop. It would of been interesting to see it's forth game played out. As for the top 3 they all seemed to have rough day. Lord Sutrap decks both 1st and 2nd rounds stomped on Becca’s modified wizard Aggro deck. It was some sort of bad luck to get Sutraps back to back. It just could handle the 8 in the face. Overall the tournament ran great but still there was clear communication issues and understanding on card rulings. I had no problem explaining them but opinions on the cards and or rulings prior to this event have been wrong and have really added to the confusion. I will talk with Keith soon to try and get these ironed out and communicated out to everyone. 1st Place Jay Algarin 2nd Place Mike Spiller Sojo out!

I did CRAPPY in this tourney . I guess the Aggro/control deck wasn't as great as I thought. I'm gonna go back to the drawing boards so expect a new deck from me Thursday! ;D I have a couple different themes in mind and I'm going to work on them later today and tomorrow. Hope to build a good one!
Congratulations on the win Jay!

May I ask...who do you mean by the top 3 contenders? I know or gather that some of you are grouped in the same geographic region...I would just like to know who you are. But good job either way. Congratulations.

Hey Arashi, what happened? And could someone please explain to me what aggro wizards kinda looks like? I mean, I don't want you to give a decklist away or anything...it's just that we have an aggressive Zycon deck by us and we'd like to know if we're talking about the same thing.
Speaking of different characters, someone scored 3rd place in the Indiana regional with Belphegor. Is this only funny to me?

I was thinking about using one of the less used characters, but I just don't really find a point in some of the characters. I posted my thoughts on all of the characters in a new thread.

Congratulations. the top four people (chris, jeffrey, jay, and Rebecca) all play at IGameSpot here in mass and that makes for a "if you win at least one game you are a hero" kind of tourney. hey i must give it up for jay, beating chris

Speaking of different characters, someone scored 3rd place in the Indiana regional with Belphegor. Is this only funny to me? Eh, my Zycon Aggro/Control didn't perform as well as it did at a previous tourney. A couple of times the deck just ran out of steam and couldn't keep going at full-force. I beat Jay in the first match, but since both of our decks were fast and aggressive, the win went to the one who showed their speed first.
An Aggro Wizard deck is basically an aggressive attacking deck with backup burn for clearing the way or for that last direct hit. Basically have lots of battlemongers, apprentices, declaration of war, as well as other offensive and wizard type creatures. My deck was a variation of this type but it was more a Aggro/Control deck than the original. It won me a tourney Thursday, but got me sixth Saturday...
Oh and by the way in case you didn't know I'm Chris Norton the current #1 ranked player and Synergy on the boards is Blaine/Jeffery the current #2 ranked player. We have played each other at every tourney we have been to and one of us usually comes in first and the other in second. However, Saturday we both had a pretty rough day. Blaine got fourth and I got sixth. I'm going to work on some decks before the next tourney and I'm going to see if I can come up with something cool that I haven't tried yet!

Speaking of different characters, someone scored 3rd place in the Indiana regional with Belphegor. Is this only funny to me? Wow, someone got actually got third in a major tourney using Belphegor? I was toying around with a belphegor deck a little while ago and I don't think they work all that well. I don't know about the deck that was played there, but the one I made was sort of a Discarding/Curse/Control deck. It was pretty good for controlling purposes but then it didn't really have much bite that did damage.
I try to avoid using characters that have less than 12 leadership as most of the good cards have 12 loyalty or more. I thought Belphegor might be interesting, but really wasn't all that great. The only character that has less than 12 leadership that I like using is Lord Sutraps and Glye isn't too bad either.

My sentiments exactly, Arashi! I always want to use Belphegor to no avail. Thanks for the info to some of those decktypes you shared. You got exalted for it, sir.
I think there is a post on this, but, why are we so secretive about our decks? I mean, I am because you guys are, but I wouldn't be, I guess. I suppose you do have more to lose, being the big-timers and everything.
Oh, and I totally know how that feels when a store has a certain game or format on lockdown, and other people were good just to win a game let alone a round, and it was a miracle if someone unusual won the whole thing. We down here in Windy got superhot in Type I of Magic in our area like 3-4 years ago, way before the prices of everything skyrocketed, and yours truly got like an 1800 DCI rating back then. Ah...enjoy it now guys. Don't let the game forget you when ME becomes global and the glory reaches far beyond just one store. I'm jealous a little, I think.

I don't really mind sharing my ideas. However, at one point in time I had a Grimus deck that everyone argued was extremely broken. So naturally when people play it and see the deck they want to copy it because it was a good deck. Well, Lets just say that my Grimus deck spread like the plague for a little bit and at least half the people in a tourney were using some variation of it. As I said, I didn't really mind that everyone used my ideas, but it forced me to find a new deck because playing a mirror match half of your rounds isn't very fun. Most of the Grimus decks have dispersed lately, mainly because people had built decks that were SPECIFICALLY built to beat the Grimus deck, even if it could beat nothing else.
Anyway, If anyone needs some general deck ideas I don't mind posting them. I have plenty!;D.
